How this was worked out

Strengths here are weight for weight (w/w). The make-up calculation assumes the product dissolves fully at the strength asked for and that volumes are additive, neither of which is true of every material at every temperature — check the solubility on the product page before relying on a figure. The dilution calculation is C1V1 = C2V2 and takes no account of volume change on mixing. Both are indicative arithmetic, not process advice, and neither replaces the guaranteed analysis or the Material Safety Data Sheet. Always add product to water in the order your MSDS specifies.

Solution strength and dilution: frequently asked questions

Is the strength weight for weight or weight for volume?
Weight for weight (w/w). If your specification is written w/v you will need the solution density to convert, and that is not something this calculator assumes for you.
Does it account for the product not dissolving fully?
No. It assumes full dissolution at the strength you ask for. Check the solubility figure on the product page, and ask us if you need it confirmed for a particular temperature.
What is C1V1 = C2V2?
The standard dilution relationship: starting strength times starting volume equals final strength times final volume. The calculator rearranges it to give you the volume of concentrate needed.
Is this process advice?
No. It is arithmetic. How a material should actually be handled and mixed is in its Material Safety Data Sheet, which we send with every quotation.
